How do I apply to camp with Nobo House?

Start with the Apply page. We review applications for fit, contribution, timing, and capacity, then follow up with next steps. Accepted campers receive more detailed onboarding information privately.

What is the cost-share for this year?

Cost-share changes each year based on camp size, infrastructure, food, transport, storage, and the gifts we are building for Black Rock City. The public overview lives on the Cost Share page, and accepted campers receive current payment deadlines and any add-ons during onboarding.

What does cost-share go toward?

Cost-share supports the shared systems that make the camp work: communal shade, kitchen equipment, food planning, water, power, showers, transport and storage of infrastructure, fuel, public offerings, and other camp operations.

It does not include your Burning Man ticket, vehicle pass, personal shelter, personal bike, personal bedding, costumes, travel, or individual comfort gear unless a specific rental has been confirmed separately.

Do I need my own Burning Man ticket?

Yes. Camp membership does not guarantee a Burning Man ticket. You are responsible for securing your own ticket and any required vehicle pass. Campers often help one another search for extra tickets, but that is community support rather than a guarantee.

Are low-income or supported tiers available?

We try to make room for campers with different financial situations when capacity allows. Supported tiers are limited and depend on contribution, timing, and the overall camp budget. Share relevant context in your application so we can evaluate it during admissions.

Can I rent gear through the camp?

Some years we can coordinate limited rentals such as bikes, tents, cots, air mattresses, or cooling equipment. Rentals are not guaranteed, quantities are limited, and they are usually confirmed only after acceptance. If a specific item is essential for you, plan a backup.

Mission, Culture & Contribution

What is Nobo House?

Nobo House is a wellness-focused Burning Man theme camp. We build a place for mind-expanding, body-rejuvenating, and spirit-lifting experiences while contributing public gifts to Black Rock City.

What values does Nobo House emphasize?

We emphasize respect for self and others, growth, connection, abundance, playfulness, creativity, consent, participation, and self-leadership. You can read more on our 10 Principles page.

What does Nobo House gift to the playa?

Our gifts center on mind, body, and spirit wellness. Depending on the year, this can include workshops, talks, movement and dance spaces, gym access, heat and chill experiences, tea, smoothies, mocktails, and other restorative offerings.

What is the social environment like?

We aim for a welcoming, inclusive, international camp environment. Some campers come with friends or partners, and many arrive solo. We create structured ways to meet people before and during the burn, while still respecting that everyone needs different levels of social energy.

How do you handle conflicts in camp?

We encourage direct, respectful communication and early escalation when a problem needs support. Team leads and camp organizers can help mediate issues, and we expect campers to treat consent, boundaries, and accountability as shared responsibilities.

What are the work and volunteer commitments?

Everyone contributes. Campers help with build, strike, daily operations, kitchen, interactivity, cleaning, logistics, and other shared needs. We use tasks, shifts, and contribution tracking to distribute work as fairly as possible.

What if I do not have construction or technical skills?

That is fine. Many important roles do not require specialized skills, and we provide guidance where training is needed. Reliability, communication, and willingness to pitch in matter more than arriving with a specific trade skill.

Location, Size & Placement

Where is the camp located?

Burning Man placement changes year to year. We announce our location once placement is confirmed by the Burning Man organization. Historically, Nobo House has camped in the 7:30 sector.

How large is the camp?

We keep the camp intentionally sized so the community can stay organized and personal. Recent years have been roughly in the 80 to 90 person range, but final capacity depends on applications, placement, infrastructure, and leadership bandwidth.

What does the camp provide?

Exact offerings change each year, but the camp generally provides shared infrastructure such as communal shade, meal planning, kitchen facilities, showers, water systems, a power grid, wellness spaces, public interactivity, and private camper gathering spaces.

Can I bring an RV?

RVs require advance coordination because space, power, pump-outs, and fresh water needs affect the whole layout. If you plan to bring an RV, tell us early in your application or onboarding. Do not assume we can accommodate an RV or power request after arrival.

Can I bring a hexayurt or large structure?

Please ask before bringing any large or unusual shelter. We evaluate structures based on placement, safety, wind resilience, setup needs, and MOOP risk. Some structures may not be permitted.

Facilities & Infrastructure

What do I need to know about electricity?

We plan a shared power grid for approved camp uses, but playa power is limited and must be treated as a shared resource. Bring your own outdoor-rated extension cord, usually at least 50 feet, and consider bringing a backup cord.

Devices that turn electricity into heat are not allowed on the camp grid. This includes hair straighteners, blow dryers, electric heaters, toaster ovens, and similar high-draw appliances. These can overload generators and affect the whole camp.

Will there be internet?

Plan to be offline. If the camp has limited internet access, it is for essential check-ins and emergencies, not remote work, streaming, or social media uploads. Burning Man is a better experience when your default plan is airplane mode.

What do I need to know about showers?

Showers are a shared luxury on playa and should be short. Expect rinse, water off while soaping, then a quick rinse again. Shower access and frequency depend on the final water plan and camp operations for that year.

What do I need to know about shade?

We provide shade for major communal areas and aim to support shade in the camping area. You are still responsible for making your personal shelter livable in heat, wind, dust, and cold nights.

Where do trash and recycling go?

Burning Man is pack-it-in, pack-it-out. Camp infrastructure may include shared systems for camp trash, aluminum recycling, and burnable paper or cardboard, but personal trash remains your responsibility. Every camper is expected to prevent MOOP and leave no trace.

Food, Water & Daily Life

What meals are provided?

We typically plan shared camper meals such as brunch and dinner, with timing and menus confirmed closer to the burn. You should still bring personal snacks, electrolyte options, and any must-have food items.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

We make a serious effort to accommodate common dietary needs and label food clearly. Tell us about restrictions during onboarding so the kitchen team can plan. If your needs are highly specific, bring backup food that you know will work for you.

Can I store or cook my own food in the kitchen?

We usually provide some personal food storage and a camper prep area, but space is limited. Label everything, clean up immediately, and do not assume the kitchen team is responsible for your personal dishes, trash, or leftovers.

Should I bring my own plate, cup, and cutlery?

Yes. Even when camp has shared kitchenware, you should bring your own reusable mug or bottle and a personal set of cutlery. You will also want these for gifts and food experiences outside camp.

What do I need to know about water?

The camp plans shared drinking water for campers, but you should bring reusable bottles or hydration packs and keep water in your tent for dust storms, emergencies, and waking up dehydrated. Use all camp water systems sparingly.

What do I need to know about ice?

Ice is usually available for purchase at Arctica locations in Black Rock City. If you rely on a personal cooler, plan for your own ice runs and do not assume camp volunteers can manage personal cooler logistics for you.

What happens during the week?

Nobo House usually has a mix of internal camper gatherings and public offerings for Burning Man participants. Daily details are shared through private camper channels, in-camp signage, and the camp schedule once plans are finalized.

Arrival, Departure & Transportation

What do I do when I arrive at camp?

Check in before setting up. A lead or delegated camper will show you where to park, place your RV, or set up your tent. Please do not claim space or start building your personal area until you are cleared, because the camp layout depends on everyone fitting together.

Am I required to help with build and strike?

Yes. Build and strike are part of camp participation. If you arrive early, expect to help set up shared infrastructure before focusing on personal decorations or comfort. If you stay late, expect to help break down and leave the site clean.

Do I need a Work Access Pass?

If you are needed for pre-event build, the camp will coordinate Work Access Pass details with you. You do not need to source one independently unless we tell you otherwise.

What if I am taking the Burner Express Bus?

The Burner Express Bus can be a good option from Reno or San Francisco. It drops passengers at the Burning Man bus depot, and local shuttles may get you closer to your sector. Pack so you can move your own gear from the drop-off point to camp.

How do I get gear to and from camp?

Most campers bring gear with them or use regional container and truck options where available. Nobo House does not guarantee personal shipping or post-burn storage for campers. Accepted campers receive current logistics guidance before the burn.

Preparation & What to Bring

What do I need to bring myself?

Plan to bring your own shelter unless a rental is confirmed, bike unless a rental is confirmed, bedding, clothing, dust protection, lights, personal medications, toiletries, reusable cup or bottle, cutlery, snacks, and any personal comfort items you need to thrive.

How should I prepare if this is my first burn?

Read the Burning Man Survival Guide, understand the 10 Principles, attend pre-event calls when offered, and ask questions early. Burning Man rewards preparation, self-reliance, and flexibility.

Do I need to bring lighting?

Yes. Light yourself, your bike, and your shelter. Bring more lighting than you think you need, plus backup batteries or charging options. Being visible at night is a safety issue.

Can I offer my own workshop, class, or activity?

Yes. We love co-creation. Tell us what you want to offer during onboarding so the interactivity team can help place it in the schedule and determine whether it should be internal, public, or both.
